Houssian Family Christmas Letter

Christmas 2007

Hello everyone,

At the beginning of a new year we wanted to pause and share with you some of last year’s highlights. It certainly was a roller coaster ride.

Aaron finished his third semester at IU with stellar grades, won a serious game design competition, and was a finalist for another competition. He also participated in a New Warrior Training Weekend and has found much peace in his life since. It seems strange to think that only 7 months ago we weren’t sure if he was going to live after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in May. Most of the time we only remember that he is a cancer survivor when it is time for his  6 months check up, see his scar or  have to come up with impressive things to put on his PHD applications.

Vanessa has had a busy, emotional year taking care of her toddler, husband , and giving birth to Son Micah. She has maintained sanity during this time mainly thanks to her mother watching the boys so she could sleep, and sing, and thanks to the support of very good friends and her In-laws.

Ezra turned two in October and is a busy toddler who exemplifies the meaning of terrible twos. He has lovingly been given the nick name “Darth Toddler” by his parents. He loves his developmental therapist Sherri, and speech therapist Jennifer. His vocabulary has increased tremendously thanks to their efforts. His favorite things are reading books, playing outdoors, watching Signing Time and flirting with older girls ?! He also asks for cookies and Ice Cream every six minutes now, since he learned the word.

Micah grew from a tiny bean sized embryo into a full baby and made his appearance as scheduled on July 5th. He spends his days eating, drinking, and being merry. He makes every one around him smile and drop what they’re doing to come over and cuddle with him. His accomplishments do NOT include pooping in the diaper. They Do include tripling our laundry load.

If I had to sum the year 2007 I would use the scripture in Doctrine and Covenants 54:10 And again, be patient in tribulation until I come; and, behold, I come quickly, and my reward is with me, and they who have sought me early shall find rest to their souls.
Yes, this has been a difficult year for us.  At the end of this year however, our trials are only remembered by an occasional glimpse of a twelve inch scar while our blessings smile back at us, squeal in delight, are healthy, happy, growing, and well. You have all blessed our lives through your faith, and support. Our hope is that your blessings will equal and surpass your trials of this next year.

Love, Aaron, Vanessa, Ezra, and Micah Houssian
